Boston Scientific Appoints Craig Thompson, MD, as CMO for Interventional Cardiology

January 6, 2014—Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA) announced the appointment of Craig Thompson, MD, as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Interventional Cardiology. In the company's press release, Dr. Thompson commented, “Boston Scientific has a longstanding history pioneering interventional cardiology, with a commitment to meaningful innovation and a robust interventional cardiology portfolio. I'm delighted to work with the interventional cardiology team to further develop the technology pipeline and educational platforms to deliver solutions for patients with cardiovascular illness worldwide.”

According to Boston Scientific, Dr. Thompson is a global leader in complex cardiac interventions. He previously served as Director, Invasive Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, at Yale New Haven Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Thompson has been an advisor for many cardiovascular device companies. He has participated in the early development of technologies for the treatment of coronary total occlusions, including the BridgePoint coronary chronic total occlusion system developed by BridgePoint Medical, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN), which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2012.

Dr. Thompson has also served as Director of Cardiovascular Catheterization and Intervention at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center/Dartmouth Medical School. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a medical degree from the University of Mississippi, and a master of medical sciences degree in clinical investigation from the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology. His postdoctoral training in clinical cardiology was completed at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and his interventional cardiology and endovascular intervention training was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, stated Boston Scientific.
